There are a lot of things you can do on your own when decorating a haven for your baby and you can start with nursery wall decor. Even if you think you aren't the artistic type, this would be the great place to start and unleash some creativity. You can buy cheap canvases and paint at dollar stores for baby nursery decoration and if you already have kids, they can even get involved, as well. Have them throw random splashes of paint on the walls or paint pictures for the new arrival. You can also use your own hand prints to make a mural as nursery wall decor.
The cribs and bassinets alone can cost up to $2000 or more. That is not including the pillows, sheets, bumper pads and blankets. Baby pillows are an odd supplement to a crib for a newborn because they are not even thought to be using them. The formerly simply fashioned bassinet that appeared like a half-canopied basket is now beginning to have its extras too. Bassinets are designed with wooden inlays etc, and they are motorized to sway the baby to sleep so that parents do not have to rock them with their foot anymore. It seems that advanced technology is not only making baby live like the rich and famous, but parents don't even have to come within 2 feet of their babies if they don't want to as the new found accessories to bed clothing include, music boxes, mobiles, and remote controlled rocking etc. Nursery bedding is almost as advanced as adult bedding.
Many people don't buy anything for the baby until after the actual birth in case of "bad luck." However, just before the birth, you may want to prepare a few very basic items in the nursery for your eventual homecoming from the hospital. This would include a small crib for the baby to sleep in, nappies, various essentials such as wet wipes, baby lotion and nappy rash cream, baby blankets, and a few baby-grows.
The most important considerations for decorating the nursery room are to ensure that the items in the room are safe for the baby and that there are no items or placement that jeopardise the safety and the health of the baby. Any decoration must enhance the nursery as the place of comfort and rest for the baby as he or she grows in stature and in time.
